Ontario teacher Jeff Laythorpe wanted to show his grade 4 class how fast images could spread on Twitter.

He posted an image and asked for it to be shared. Surely, he could not have imagined it would gain more than 12,000 retweets in just a day and a half.

Much has been said about the impact of social media on our children (see the American psychiatry association’s guidelines and Twitter’s own child safety tips here) but in the main, it has been directed at parents.

Great teachers know they need to show their students the impact of their actions.

Here’s to Mr Laythorpe, whose brilliant idea is a lesson for us all.
